3D x-rays

Using the most advanced dental technology possible is just as important as staying up-to-date on the latest treatment techniques. Because our practice is dedicated to providing you with the safest and most convenient periodontal treatment options available, we utilize cone beam computive topography (CBCT).

Is a CBCT the same as a regular CT Scan?

Both radiographs identify the anatomical structures around bone, but the CBCT is mainly used for the head and neck.  Medical CT scans use a fan-shaped beam from an anode tube, whereas a CBCT scanner produces a cone-shaped beam from a fluoroscopy tube.  Unlike having to get a CT scan from a different building, you can have your CBCT taken right here at the office because it is smaller and less expensive.

What are the advantages of CBCT?

  • 10X less radiation exposure compared to medical CT scans
  • More detail can be seen in the bone than a regular x-ray
  • CBCT is totally painless and noninvasive.
  • Important anatomical structures can be evaluated in a clear three dimensional image.
  • Implant planning using the CBCT allows us for ideal placement
  • The images can be enlarged and manipulated, giving your doctor a clear, more detailed look at your jaw.
  • Because you can see the image enlarged on a screen, you can better understand your periodontal condition and why treatments may be necessary.

Our practice is focused on making your periodontal experience as comfortable as possible. At your next appointment, we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
